Settlement Agent’s fees are no longer regulated, however most agencies base their fees on the purchase price of the property and the level of work involved to complete the transaction. The fee is greater for the Buyer due to the fact that there is more work, expertise and professional liability involved in that side of the dealing.
If you are seeking quotes for a Settlement Agent, it is important to remember that the fees you pay not only cover your settlement, but also for the Agent to attend courses to keep up-to-date with the latest industry changes, maintain professional indemnity insurance, and employ sufficient staff to ensure your file is dealt with in a timely and efficient manner.
As with any professional service, it is about achieving value for money and like most things, the cheapest quote is not always the best! A bargain-basement price may come from a conveyancer who is inexperienced and not always available when you need them.
